Since the days of yore, Forts were constructed to show opulence. The bigger the fort the wealthier you are. Aguada fort is one such fort which is quite popular amongst the travellers as well as the inmates. Constructed on a long peninsula, the fort stretches itself into the sea and derived its name from a spring within the fort. This spring was known to provide water to ships.
Once a residence of the kings and queens, the forts have had a complete make over. The fort, at present, houses a central jail, largest in Goa. Aguada uses to a place where ships used to stop to acquire permit for a price. The permit at that time was known as 'Cartez.' The Cartez assured Portuguese protection from the dreaded sea raiders in the Arabian Sea.
Within the complex you would be able to locate a four storeyed lighthouse. This was constructed in 1864 and was lit by an oil lamp. Its beam is said to have revolved every seven minutes. The light house has another piece of marvel which was retrieved from the ruins of the St Augustine Monastery at Old Goa. which now hangs in Our lady of Immaculate Conceptions. The light house gives a panoramic view of the surrounding. More so one would be able to see Raj Niwas which was once the Fort of Cabo, from the lighthouse itself.

Church of St Lawrence
This church is dedicated to Goa's patron saint of sailors and his statue presides over the simple altar. The Church comes to life on 10 th August when St Lawrence Feast is celebrated.

Beach Resort
